On 18 December 2013, the Librarian of Congress announced the twenty-five films chosen as the 2013 additions to the National Film Registry, bringining the current list to a total of 625 films. The works are selected for their cultural, aesthetic and historical significance. A spot on the National Film Registry means that the Library of Congress will work to ensure preservation and access of the film for future generations. The 2013 list includes the WWII film, Judgment at Nuremberg. The film features an all-star cast including Spencer Tracy, Burt Lancaster, Judy Garland, Marlene Dietrich, Werner Klemperer, Richard Widmark, Maximillian Schell and Montgomery Clift. Judgment at Nuremberg was released 52 years ago on 19 December 1961, just days following Adolf Eichmann’s sentencing to death in Israel for war crimes and crimes against humanity.
