SPAM Turns 75

1941 SPAM ad

Did you know… that between 1941-1945, more than 100 million pounds of SPAM were shipped abroad to feed Allied troops? By 1945, this made up more than 90% of Hormel’s inventory of the product. The canned meat was both beloved and reviled by American GIs. But one thing’s for sure, SPAM, which turned 75 in 2012, continues to be an integral part of American pop culture.

Do you have WWII SPAM memories or recipes? Share them in the comments below or on our Facebook page.

Check out nostalgic SPAM products in the Museum Store. Proceeds from the Museum Store support the continuing educational mission of The National WWII Museum.
