Seventy years ago, on 30 March 1943, the keel was laid for PT-305 at Higgins Industries in New Orleans. Not quite two months later, on 27 May, she was launched.  PT-305 is the star attraction in the John E. Kushner Restoration Pavilion where she is the focus of a multi-year restoration project.

In this Office of War Information photo by John Vachon, Higgins workers eat lunch perched on torpedo tubes. Image courtesy of the Library of Congress.
