The National WWII Museum’s World War II wargame convention, Heat of Battle has finished another successful weekend.Presented this year by World of Tanks, Heat of Battle has hobbyists recreate WWII battles and campaigns. The visiting public moves among the tables to learn about WWII. Many hobbyists have extensive knowledge of the war and are happy to share their information and interest. Young people, especially, are drawn to experience history through this involving hobby.

World of TanksWorld of Tanks is an online free-to-play computer wargame in which players use historically accurate tanks on computerized battlefields. Joining World of Tanks in sponsorship was Shenandoah Studios (developer of an I-Pad based Battle of the Bulge game), Bayou Wars and the Historical Miniatures Gaming Society (HMGS).

Highlights this year were the Southeast’s largest Flames of War tournament, a large recreation of the invasion of Peleliu, and a monstrous recreation of the Market-Garden campaign in 1:285 scale stretching over 20 feet. Our Saturday “Family Corner” introduces young people to a game focused on WWII history – Memoir ’44.  Almost 200 attendees enjoyed these and many other games!
