Valentine’s Day―Pass the Ammunition!

Gift of Mary Carlsen, The National WWII Museum Inc., 2000.035

For many Americans, Valentine’s Day 1942 was the first of several Valentine’s Days spent apart from their sweethearts; separated by the distance of war.  Some of the many Valentine’s Day cards in the Museum’s collection speak to the uncertainties of the time and offer corresponding reassurances to loved ones far away.

See other artifacts that illustrate the triumph of love in wartime – including handmade jewelry and homemade wedding dresses.
